Of course, even from the inception of
modern technology and telecommunications, technology has been the subject of
both praise and criticism from the public. Accordingly then, these views are
reflected in through the media. In my view, most people would agree that technology
had made enormous advancements for human society and have bought in convenience
as well as well as materializing many dreams which were never imagined to be
achievable by human kind. Accordingly, such as the image below, technology is
seem as both the road and the light to the future. Moreover, technology is also
universal. Modern benefits anyone and absolutely everyone, albeit that those
who are more affluent may be able to obtain greater marginal benefits. This is
reflected through the anonymity in the figures below. Reading the image, I
obtain the feeling that we are moving forward into a brighter and enlightening
future.
Yet, technology may also become a burden,
if its supply and usage becomes excessive or even turning into its own sort of
addition. In fact, there has been quite a number of popular articles in the
press suggesting and discussing upon the idea of a ‘cyber’ or ‘internet
connection’, where individuals are dependent upon technology to such an extent
that they cannot live without even for a few minutes. The satirical carton
image below shows a troubled teen who is completely surrounded by the most
popular icons of modern technology. He is supposed to be the star of the future
and his generation, and yet he is trapped by his dependency upon technology,
and his future has become obscured and full of ‘clouds’. Personally, I can
surely relate to this cartoon, for this exactly how I often feel. Trapped by
Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube.
